On the Cherub: Another Revolution for Small Studio PaperMaking
Mark Lander, artist, inventor and soul enhancer,
(bless him, in New Zealand, radiating joy) created a
portable Hollander beater, enabling small studio
papermakers to have this essential tool. For me it
means, that I will never be without pulp, and it
means I will never be without quality pulp. It extends
my palette and saves me oodles, because now I don't
have to have pulp shipped to me... and as a capital-
challenged fulltime creator, the Critter was a dream
come true.
c
That dream begat another dream , to have something that beat more pulp than a blender, but was smaller than a Critter.
I've dubbed the new mighty mini beater, the Cherub.
The Cherub is another brilliant breakthrough in design.
I can now process smaller batches of plant and other fibers with great efficiency.

It is a "beater in a handbag" demonstrating Mark's profound understanding of portability and size issues. The tub is attached and this machine was totally ready to go, straight from the box.
As this winter was daunting in the northeast U.S. my Studio B was, too. Studio K became the site for processing last summer's and fall's gatherings.
I equate the Critter to the creation of the small glass
furnace in the 60s by Dominick Labino and Harvey
Littleton, which made the Studio Glass Movement
possible. Glass makers no longer had to be incredibly
wealthy or connected to industry to create their
objects.

The Cherub enables you to take another part of the process to the workshop or demonstration , in addition to aiding the creation of small batches.
I offered praise just at the idea of it, but now
that I've experienced its compact, kitchen countertop quiet efficiency, I am again, all a-
pulped with gratitude.
